Holy Family wins scholastic contest

Holy Family High School in Lindsay won the scholastic contest in Class D April 7 at the 30th annual Scholastic Contest and Quiz Bowl, sponsored by Northeast Community College in Norfolk.

The contest features separate competitions for Class C and Class D schools and a quiz bowl for schools from both classes. Topics include calculus, trigonometry, personal finance, American government, using the library and public speaking.

In addition to a team plaque, Holy Family was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Northeast Community College Foundation, to be presented to a team member who graduates this spring and will attend Northeast next fall.

Holy Family team members were juniors Erika Ruhnke and Regan Wiese and seniors Briley Wiese (Regan’s sister) Kendall Schumacher, Emily Hemmer, Ellie Kurtenbach, Dylan Preister and Kaylee Jensen.

More than 1,100 students from 50 schools competed. Other archdiocesan schools participating were Cedar Catholic Junior/Senior High School in Hartington, Guardian Angels Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School in West Point, St. Francis High School in Humphrey, Norfolk Catholic Junior/Senior High School in Norfolk, Pope John XXIII Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School in Elgin and St. Mary School in O’Neill.
