Knights honor family, man from archdiocese

This year’s Nebraska Knights of Columbus Family of the Year and Knight of the Year are from councils in the Archdiocese of Omaha.

Honored for their support of Columban Council 6192 in Bellevue, their parish and community are Deacon Ted and Cindy Menzel of St. Mary Parish, also in Bellevue, their three children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law.

The Menzels’ service has included gardening at St. Mary Parish and Mercy High School in Omaha and helping with annual school and parish fundraisers. They have been involved with the parish’s Couples in Christ, That Man Is You! and other programs, including leading children’s liturgy during Sunday Masses, a ministry they founded 27 years ago.

Greg Jochum of St. Isidore Parish and St. Isidore Council 12086 in Columbus was honored as Knight of the Year for his faith and service. He is a charter member and church director of the council, a team captain for the parish’s perpetual adoration program, a participant in That Man Is You! and a four-year chairman of the parish’s annual fundraiser. Jochum also is a member of a leadership council for Christians Encounter Christ.
