Mercy High honors distinguished alumna

Mercy High School announced its 2019 Distinguished Woman of Mercy Alumna winner at its annual FIESTA fundraiser Feb. 16.

Ann Bendon Wieberg, class of 1957, will receive the award at the Omaha school’s 2019 all-school reunion June 2 in recognition of her years of service to her family, the Mercy family and the broader community.

Bendon Wieberg served on the school’s alumnae council and helped organize the Golden Guild Tea event honoring alumnae of 50 years or more. Now a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Omaha, her years of service included membership on the Holy Cross parish council and school board, delivering meals to families at local shelters, visiting the homebound and volunteering for pro-life activities.

She and her late husband, John, had five children, including four daughters, all of whom are Mercy graduates.

More than 490 people attended this year’s FIESTA, which raised more than $400,000 for the school’s negotiated tuition program.
