Mercy High senior is school’s May Queen

A senior active in student council, soccer, cross-country and service to the needy through food drive Operation Others is being honored as Mercy High’s May Queen in Omaha.
 
Madeline Elsasser will crown a statue of Mary at the all-girls school’s May Crowning May 7. Her mother, Aryn Vacanti Elsasser, graduated from Mercy High in 1998 and was a member of the May Court her freshman year, and her grandmother, Teresa Vancura Vacanti, graduated in 1973.
 
“Hearing stories from my relatives has been touching, and being chosen myself is a huge honor,” Elsasser said.
 
Joining Elsasser on the May Court are seniors Molly Bartek-Miller and Hope Fett, juniors Anne Laferla and Faustina Szalewski, sophomores Sabori Cervantes and Katherine Geist, and freshmen Samantha Burns and Clara Jones.
