Movie fundraiser reflects Catholic Charities’ values

Catholic Charities of Omaha welcomes community members to an Oct. 27  special screening of the movie “Soul on Fire,” which includes a Q&A session with an Omaha native involved in the filmmaking.

The exclusive Omaha showing – at Film Streams’ Dundee Theater, 4952 Dodge St. – is a fundraiser for Catholic Charities as the organization celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Omaha native Frank Merwald, the post-production producer, will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the making of “Soul on Fire,” his insights from the movie set and the message that drew him toward the project.

The film is adapted from the real-life story of John O’Leary, who as a boy survived a near-fatal fire in St. Louis.

“‘Soul on Fire’ is about finding purpose and faith in life’s most difficult moments – the same values that drive Catholic Charities every day,” said Denise Bartels, executive director of Catholic Charities of Omaha. “We’re honored to share this film with our community as we celebrate our centennial anniversary and 100 years of inspiring hope.”

The one-night special showing marks the beginning of Catholic Charities’ Centennial Celebration, a yearlong reflection on a century of compassion and service.

Tickets are $150 per person, with all proceeds benefiting Catholic Charities of Omaha. The event includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 7 p.m.
