Women learn to see themselves through God’s eyes

Women from five parishes in the Columbus area have been meeting Thursday evenings to better know themselves and God.

About 85 participants have engaged each week this fall in a program called “She Shall be Called Woman – Masterpiece of Creation,” developed by Paradisus Dei, the same organization that created the men’s program “That Man is You” and the couples program “The Choice Wine.”

More women are welcome because prior participation isn’t necessary for each meeting, said organizer Janice Jochum of St. Isidore Parish, where the meetings are held each week from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Another phase of the “She” program will continue in January and examine “The Ten Virtues of Mary.”

Participants this fall seem to be enjoying it, Jochum said. The women have come from St. Isidore, St. Anthony and St. Bonaventure in Columbus, as well as St. Joseph in Platte Center and St. Stanislaus in Duncan.

They’ve been learning more about who they are in God’s eyes, how much He loves them and His special designs for them.

Paridisus Dei describes “She” as “a program that engages the deepest longings of the feminine heart. It’s a place for women who want to be truly known and loved on their journey with the Lord.”

At the first gathering in Columbus on Sept. 18, the session was called “His.”

“Jesus calls us to have a closer relationship to Him,” Jochum said, “and the sentence ‘I know who I am because I know Whose I am’ sums it up. We are daughters of the King.”
