New tower allows Spirit Catholic Radio to reach more listeners
June 10, 2024
Spirit Catholic Radio Network has widened its broadcast reach with a new signal, KONL (91.5-FM), for listeners in O’Neill, Amelia, Atkinson, Stuart, Butte, Lynch, Spencer and surrounding areas.
The new signal in O’Neill has been in operation since May 9. Archbishop George J. Lucas blessed the new signal tower June 9.
An anonymous Nebraska family donated $25,000 – almost half the money needed – for the cost and installation of the new transmitter, antenna, transmission line and radio equipment, Spirit Catholic Radio Network said in a press release.
Area residents matched the donation last year. Now, the nonprofit radio network is trying to raise an additional $8,400 to cover operational costs for the first year.
The network said it’s planning another new signal for the Ogallala area in the coming months.
Spirit Catholic Radio is an affiliate of the Eternal World Television Network (EWTN) and broadcasts national Catholic programs on faith, family, relationships, current events, prayer and devotions.
The local network also airs more than 28 hours a week of Nebraska-based programs, including daily Mass; the rosary recited by Nebraska’s three bishops; and a talk show, Spirit Mornings with Jen Brown and Bruce McGregor.
Spirit Catholic Radio Network has 18 signals that allow it to reach more than 2.1 million people in Nebraska and portions of six other states.
People can also listen to archived podcasts and a live internet stream at spiritcatholicradio.com and by downloading the Spirit Catholic Radio smartphone app.
