School Sister of St. Francis Bernice Gall ministered in music and education

School Sister of St. Francis Bernice Gall spent her nearly 70 years of consecrated life as a musician and a teacher. She died July 30 at the Harper Hospice House in Omaha. She was 85.

A funeral Mass was held on August 5 at St. James Catholic Church in Omaha. Burial was at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Sister Bernice was born in Howells, Nebraska, and was received into the School Sisters of St. Francis in 1956. She made her first profession of vows in 1959 and her perpetual vows in 1964.

Sister Bernice served in the archdiocese of Omaha and Milwaukee, and the dioceses of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Indiana, Joliet and Rockford, Illinois, and Des Moines. After retiring in 2016, Sister Bernice served in the ministry of prayer and presence at New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha.

Survivors include siblings Leroy (Janice) Gall, Joseph Gall, Marie (Bill) Koley, Benilda Spenner; sisters-in-law Carol Gall and Esther Gall; nieces and nephews; friends and the School Sisters of St. Francis community.
