School raises $2,300 for shelter

A walk for the homeless, a bake sale and a coin-donation competition among classrooms helped Our Lady of Lourdes middle school students collect $2,300 for the Stephen Center shelter, both in Omaha.

Students presented a check to the homeless shelter and addiction recovery center Nov. 21.

It’s important to help others in need, said eighth-grader Erin Buglewicz.

“I think it’s very easy to forget how lucky we are,” she said. “It’s important to not lose sight of what’s happening around us, right in our own community, and to make sure we give back regularly.”
