Sisters of Mercy elect leaders

Sister of Mercy Patricia McDermott, an Omaha native and graduate of Mercy High School in Omaha, was elected June 28 to a second term as president of the order’s communities across North America, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Guam and the Philippines.

And two sisters now serving with the leadership team of the sisters’ West Midwest Community based in Omaha were elected to serve alongside Sister McDermott, as councilors on the five-member international leadership team called the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. Sisters Judith Frikker, a Detroit native, and Anne Marie Miller, a native of Dublin, will join Sister McDermott Aug. 1 at the institute’s headquarters in Silver Spring, Md. All three sisters will serve six-year terms.
