Soiree raises $68,000 for the underprivileged

About 120 people helped the Christ Child Society of Omaha raise $68,000 May 23, during its annual Summer Soiree at Happy Hollow Country Club, with the theme, “Where Love Leads to Action.”

Proceeds will help provide layettes (clothing, bedclothes, diapers and other items) for needy newborns and fund college scholarships for underprivileged students.

The organization also honored Father Carl Salanitro, pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Omaha, for his years of service, dedication and advocacy for the society.

The guest speaker was Father James Keiter, the organization’s board chairman and pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in Fordyce, St. Joseph Parish in Constance and St. Boniface Parish in Menominee, which have since merged into All Saints Parish.
