St. Francis High wins state theater title

St. Francis High School in Humphrey won the Nebraska School Activities Association’s Class D1 state play production championship for its performance of “No Loose Ends.” Twelfth-grader Kelly Zach was named outstanding male performer.

The competition was held Dec. 5 at Johnny Carson Theater in Norfolk.

The play, directed by teachers Michael McPhillips and Tina Schumacher, is a reimagining of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” set in the prohibition era. Twenty-seven students performed, and 13 were on the technical crew.

The school qualified for the state championship by winning the district title Nov. 27.
