Students spread kindness at cancer center
April 18, 2019
About 25 students and parents from St. Columbkille School in Papillion left messages of kindness and support at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center April 19.
Members of the school’s “Secret Kindness Agents,” the students left message cards with thoughts of support on the windshields of patients undergoing treatment at the center and their family members, said Jessica Rempe, a parent of three children at the school and organizer of the group.
They also taped bags of coins to vending machines and put up posters around the hospital with tear-off tabs suggesting people perform their own acts of kindness, she said. And the students made and distributed thank-you notes for the doctors and nurses.
“We received a thank-you note from a patient saying how much the card made her day because she was having a tough day with her treatment,” Rempe said.
