‘Buddy bench’ earns Girl Scout award

A project to promote inclusion and kindness earned members of Girl Scout Troop 44642 at St. Patrick School in Elkhorn the Girl Scouts’ Silver Award, the highest honor Cadettes (sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders) can earn.

 

With help from a local metalworking shop, eighth-grade Cadettes designed, built and painted a “buddy bench” for the preschool-to-second-grade playground, which teachers introduced to their students March 22.

 

The bench was built particularly for any child who feels sad or left out and would welcome a friendly visit.
