Students treated to dinner, prizes

Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) Court St. Monica 877 in Norfolk treated about 30 students to dinner March 19 for their work in the CDA’s annual education contest.

Accompanied by friends and family, it became a dinner for more than 80 guests, said Mary Seier, co-chair of the court’s contest and a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Norfolk.

The strong participation compared with recent years might have stemmed in part from students resonating with the contest themes around which they built their art, poetry, essays and photography: finding joy in God and his gift of life, she said.

First- through third-place winners in each category received certificates and up to $20 in cash prizes, and first place winners will compete this month at the state contest in Lincoln. State winners will compete at the July 17-22 national convention in Sioux Falls, S.D.
