The Culture Project offers antidote to the lies culture tells young people

Raising up the next generation of saints and combatting the lies told by secular society to young people is the goal of The Culture Project, an initiative that trains young men and women to become missionaries of truth who speak and accompany students in life’s struggles.

In the latest episode of Archbishop George J. Lucas’ video podcast, “Missional Catholics,” the archbishop talks with two of these missionaries who are working in the Archdiocese of Omaha, speaking at local middle and high schools, parishes and youth groups.

Danielle Blattman and Bernie Senger talk with Archbishop Lucas about Generation Z’s longing to know the truth about themselves and their faith.

“These students are not content with being captive,” Blattman tells Archbishop Lucas. “They are looking for somebody to give them hope. They are looking for someone to extend their hand and just help them out of where they are.”

The work of the Culture Project is in line with a priority the bishops in the United States have made to engage young people in the faith. The work also helps to combat lies from secular society, which lead to high instances of anxiety and depression in young people and the feeling that they are not enough.

Blattman believes that today’s youth is experiencing an identity crisis. “The biggest problem, especially for youth, is that we’re having an identity crisis that we don’t know who we are, and because of that, we are settling for less than which we are made for.”

Blattman tells the students who are “settling for less” that their “dignity comes from the fact that we are made in God’s image and likeness, not from anything we can or can’t do.”
