Three students play in All-State Band

Two Omaha students with Music in Catholic Schools (MCS) and one in the Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School junior band in Bellevue were among 82 students chosen for the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association’s Eighth-Grade All-State Band.

MCS members John Dickas, clarinet, of St. Robert Bellarmine School, and Xavier Hackenberg, trumpet, of St. James/Seton School, and Gross Catholic junior band member Logan Srb, alto saxophone, of St. Bernadette School in Bellevue, performed with the state band Jan. 14 in the Fine Arts Center at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Music in Catholic Schools provides a full band curriculum and concerts for students in 22 Catholic and three Lutheran elementary schools in the Omaha area.

And Gross Catholic’s junior band serves students at St. Mary and St. Bernadette schools in Bellevue and St. Columbkille School in Papillion, providing lessons at each school and an ensemble rehearsal once a week. There also are opportunities to play at concerts performed by the high school band, said Bob Lienemann, band director.
